Beta 2-agonists

Beta 2-agonists are substances that manifest its effects in cells by connecting to beta 2-adrenergic receptor of cell membrane effectory organs.

The most significant representors of selective beta 2-agonists are: clenbuterol, terbutaline, salbutamol, fenoterol, salmaterol…

Beta agonists manifest adrenergic effects in bigger or smaller measure on other tissues like heart(stimulation), metabolism(stimulation of glycogenolisis, lipolisis and calorigenesis) and other tissues.

Detection

Beta 2-agonists can be detected in urine through appliance of techniques gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Problem in detection is due to small amount use in the period before competition.

If doping control determines salbutamol concentration bigger than 1000 ng/ml, it will be considered as doping, nevermind if athlete has proper excuse.

Inhalation of salbutamol, salmaterol and terbutaline is allowed in prevention and treatment of astma and training induced astma/bronchoconstriction. In these cases written medical document is needed, that is given to the organizer of sports competition on view.
